Oregon Trip!!

We made our annual winter trip up to Oregon to visit the family and as usual we had a great time! Jen, Travis, Pop, Nana, and Kristy joined us! Austin had a blast playing with all the kids and being the center of attention! I wish there would have been a little more snow so we could have done some sledding like last year but oh well!!

7 months....a little late!

Well this is Austins 7 month photo shoot, a little late! Austin has become quite the little mover! Crawling everywhere and pulling himself up on everything! Unfortunately, he isn't as stable as he wishes he was, so there is a lot of falling also!! He looks like he is ready to get up and run! My guess is that he will be taking steps at 9.5 months, but we will see! He is now giving high five pretty consistently, and looks like maybe he is signing milk, what a smart little man! He is getting really hard to get a sitting picture of him with his stuffed animals so this is the best I could do!

6 month appointment and videos

Austin had his 6 month check up this week. It was a little late, so more like 6.5 month check up! But everything is going well, his labs are finally up to normal so no more routine blood tests needed!! YAY!! He weighed 16.4 pounds(19%) and was 26 inches long(20%). He has now starting pulling himself up to standing!! CRAZY!! And I keep thinking everyday might be the day he is crawling, but he is keeping us in suspense! This morning Dan noticed his bottom tooth is starting to poke through!! So I will get a pic of that posted when you can see it more!

He has already been introduced to the pups and of course Emma is interested and Dakota is unsure! He is a little peanut now but can grow up to 2 feet long and about 60 pounds!

The day that Austin was born was one of the greatest days EVER! Before all the labs, the blue lights, and the NICU that happened on day 2, the hospital photographer was able to capture a few pics of proud new parents and their first little boy!! 6 months old and such a big boy!! Austin is really starting to have his own personality, ideas and humor! This little kid cracks us up! He is starting to eat in his highchair and so far has tried green beans, peas, and carrots and loved all three! He hasnt started crawling yet, but is slowly starting to push up onto his knees. He is babbling more these days too! We are really trying to start signing to him more so maybe in a few months he will be able to sign back! He is finally in his crib for bedtime every night, even though he isnt the biggest fan sometimes! We love this little guy and it is so much fun watching him grow and explore!

We had a blast celebrating Lexi and Gavin, as well as Auntie Nette and Uncle Ryan! Happy Birthday!!! Most of the fam from So Cal made it up: GramaShell and Gumpa Ric, Uncle Ryan and Grandpa Dave..(we missed you auntie adg!) Anthony's family all made it out for the party and Auntie Nette, Uncle Mike and Cousin Kendall stayed a few days. GGma and GGpa made it out from Utah, and thanks to Cindy, Andy and Sofia for making the trip all the way from Chicago to join in on the fun!

Our little man is 5 months old!! Can you believe it?? He is now a pro at sitting up and is really starting to play with toys! He loves just sitting on the floor surrounded by new toys! The only problem is when he accidentally pushes, rolls, and throws the toys away from him!! Then he really gets upset that he cant go after them...so, I think he might be trying to crawl after them soon!! He is really starting to know what he wants and gets upset if we cant figure it out fast enough!! But he is still our smiling, laughing, loving boy!! He is usually a great sleeper, about 11pm to 7am in his crib, but occasionally decides he wants to sleep with mommy and daddy and we haven't had the heart, or energy, to tell him no yet!! How could you with this adorable face!!

This is the only pic I got during thanksgiving! Austin did great and slept through the entire dinner so Dan and I could both eat with the family! Look close you can see his 49ers undershirt!! LOL! Too bad it didnt help the niners win this time!

I had to do another clean out of Austins closet the other day. Replacing most of his 3 month clothes with 6-9month outfits and even though I'm excited to be able to start dressing him in some really cute big boy clothes...it tugged at my heart a little too! So I got out grandmas outfit, which still has a nice newborn baby boy statement to it!! Here is my little cutey playing around... He is doing this interesting sucking on his lips the last couple of days, so every pic I got has him doing it!

Dan and I bought this onesie in Jamaica on our honeymoon! We decided if we got pregnant there then we would tell everyone by showing them the shirt. Well, it took a little longer and the "newborn" onesie is oddly shaped and very large! So since Austin finally fits in it I figured I would get a couple pics!

So November 9th came and went and I'm not sure I feel any different! Maybe it will hit me the first time someone asks me how old I am and I have to say, "30!" The day was nice and relaxing with Dan making a wonderful dinner and Austin was in a great mood when he woke up from his longest nap ever of 3 hours! He even sat at the dinnertable with us in his highchair for the first time and tried some cereal! He wasn't too sure at first but I think he liked it by the end!

Austin is 4 months old and I cant believe how different every day is with him! He is exploring everything he can get his hands on! Especially his thumb which is always in his mouth to slobber and chew on...not too much of a thumb sucker, just a thumb chewer! He is pretty much always in a good mood, quick to smile and easy to laugh!! What a joy!! He is starting to be able to entertain himself for longer periods and really starting to move on his tummy mat! Im not sure we have much longer before he will be making us babyproof the house!! His doctor said he is looking great! He is 25 inches tall, which is 46 percentile. And 14.4 pounds, which is 34 percentile! I cant believe how big my little muchkin is getting!!

Three Months Old Already!!??

Austin is already 3 months old and we just cant believe how much he is growing and changing so quickly!! He is now really grabbing and taking hold of his toes, his toys and Daddys beard! He is also sitting up unassisted for a few seconds, even longer than the video here shows! He is still quick to smile and laugh with us, but is also able to entertain himself for longer stretches! He is rolling back to front and front to back without trouble, and I am now finding him on his tummy in his crib in the morning. He is occasionally sleeping through the night, but at times still wants his quiet mommy time at 3am or so, which is fine with me! Now that Ive gone back to work its nice to have our special time together! I cant wait to see what our little one is going to teach us this month!

Summer '11 Oregon trip!

We took Austin on his first trip up to Oregon over Memorial Day Weekend. We hiked down into the Lava Caves which I had never done before but it was really fun. And while we were there Auntie GaGa and Uncle Jerry got to babysit! Only one of the pics I took came out, so you just have to imagine completely cold darkness! We also went to the Deschutes Brewery and did their tour and tasted some beer. Austin got to hang out with a bunch of his cousins and we all had a great time! Cant wait to see our Oregon family again soon!

I cant believe that Austin is 2 months old already!! He is starting to babble to us a lot, smile and giggle! He rolled over for the first time at 7 weeks back to belly, and since then twice belly to back! But I still have yet to get it on video! He is also reaching out and grabbing toys! He had his first couple shots at his appointment this week and didn't like those at all, but he did charm the nurse and doctor with his dancing and grinning! He weighed exactly 11 pounds and was 22.5 inches long which are both 30 percentile!! I cant wait to see what this little munchkin has in store for us over the next month!!

Last weekend we went camping up in Hope Valley. Gavin caught his first fish! I finally got to ride my dirtbike and cant wait to go again! And it was Austins first camping trip at 7weeks old! I think he had a blast, but i will let the pics tell the story...

August 11-15: Austin is starting to find his voice more and more these days. He is really getting active and is having more awake periods these days. He rolled over at 7 weeks, from back to front, but we haven't gotten it on video yet and he hasn't done it since!!

Brandi and her kids joined Dan, Austin and I for a roadtrip down south to visit family and friends and introduce them to our new baby, as well as meet some new little ones!

6 weeks today!!

Austin is 6 weeks old today! I cant believe it! We have kept pretty busy since he was born, so he has had quite an eventful 6 weeks! His first outing was at 1 week old to Tim and Jammies wedding, where he wore his first suit. Then at 2 weeks he went to the dirt bike track for the first time so Daddy could teach Uncle Ryan and Auntie Brandi to ride dirt bikes. Then GGMa and GGPa came from Utah to visit and we went to the zoo and celebrated GGPas birthday! At 4 weeks old we went to the State Fair and saw Daddy race his dirt bike and met the whole Ellsmore family for the first time! Then he went on his first overnight camping trip to Ladoga and did great! This last week we had Aunt Vicky's surprise birthday party, which was so much fun! But I didn't get any pics. And Uncle Brian and Auntie Wendy's birthday pool party! Its been a blast and I cant wait to introduce Austin to more family this weekend as we head down to So Cal!!

Austin was 4 weeks old yesterday and he has really started smiling at us! Of course not when we get the camera, but I was able to capture a small smile! Dan gave him his first bottle yesterday also and he drank it down without a problem!

Austin is now over 3 weeks old!! He has gained over a pound since his last appointment and weighs 8 pounds and 3 ounces today!! I cant believe how time flies! He is doing great and last night he spent the whole night in his crib! I think that Dan and I both slept better without his little noises waking us up constantly! He is now sleeping in about 3 hour periods at night, which is nice to get a little more sleep.

He is starting to be awake more during the day and really enjoying his tummy time mat, especially with his black and white book to stare at! He moves around a lot on his tummy, and it seems that it wont be long before he is able to roll over. Crazy!! He also looks like he is starting to smile at us! We are trying to catch it on video and there is a short clip where he seems to smirk a bit, but wait til you see his adorable open mouth smile!!

A little update about Austin's Coombs positive issues. We were very excited last week when the bilirubin level was finally on its way down and we no longer had to do daily lab draws!! But now his issue is a drop in blood count as the hemolysis of his blood cells continues as a result of the Coombs positive. So we are having to draw his blood count every two weeks until he is 3 months old. His first draw was this week and was a little low. We are hoping for the count to stay up and for Austin to keep eating well!! Fingers crossed!! Hopefully soon his little heels can start healing!!

Weve had quite a few visitors lately and I need to get better about posting more frequently so that I dont have quite so long of a post! But I have photos of Austin with his Great-GG on her 93rd birthday!! Happy birthday GG!!! And there are pics from this week when GGma and GGpa came out from Utah to visit and meet Austin! Also GramaShell, Ric and Great-Aunt Janell came up to visit and help celebrate GGpa's 75th birthday!! Happy birthday GGpa!!

Well Austin managed to be born and get out of the hospital with just enough time to spare so that we could make it to the event of the year: Tim and Jammie's wedding!!! We had a blast and everyone was able to meet Austin!
Uncle Ry and Auntie Adg were up for the wedding and stayed a couple days to spend some time with us and their newest nephew! We had fun hanging out and Ryan and Brandi spent some time trying to learn how to ride my dirt bike(which I still haven't gotten to try out!)
Austin is 2 weeks old today and his doctor is very pleased with how he has done since his release from the NICU. He was weighed today at 7lbs 2oz which is the 12th percentile, and is 20inches long, which is the 24th percentile. And we are loving our little munchkin!!

Austin's First Week

The first week of Austins life was much more eventful than I had anticipated. And it didn't help that I was very weak after delivery with my heart rate getting up to 130s and my blood count almost dropping in half! The first night was fine, we didn't get a ton of sleep but Dan and I were just happy to finally have our little boy! The next day we were hoping to go home, but found out that Austin tested Coombs positive, which means that our incompatible blood mixed in utero and creates more bilirubin than Austin's body can process. The pediatrician recommended a swift transfer to NICU and aggressive UV light therapy to counteract the bilirubin levels. Jamie was in town visiting and immediately went to Brandi's to watch her kids so she could come be with us! Thanks Jamie, we love you!!! He was placed in an incubator and I was only allowed to hold him for 30 minutes every 3 hours to breastfeed. For the first day they placed an tube in his nose that goes into his stomach so they could give him additional breast milk that I was pumping. It was so hard seeing my little boy squirm and cry in that bed all alone and only be able to comfort him by trying to hold his hand. Luckily he actually tolerated it pretty well and comforted fairly easily. Every 6 hours or so they would stick his heel for another bilirubin level to make sure that the levels weren't getting dangerously high. The nurses were so wonderful during our entire stay! They were kind, understanding, and truly appeared to be genuinely concerned about Austin's condition. The doctor was great also, but she kept giving us false hope that the levels were going to drop and we would get to go home. Then when the levels kept going up it was quite an emotional blow! We made sure that someone was with Austin at all times, even though that meant one night of both Dan and I sleeping in chairs by his bed. And thanks to Brandi, GramaShell and Grandma Kristy for staying with us for so long and through all odd hours of the night so Dan and I could get at least a little rest and feel so supported!! On Austin's 5th day the levels finally came down enough that we were discharged from the hospital and he was able to put on his first clothes and take his first car ride!! What a day!!
We were still doing daily heel sticks at a lab to check on his bili levels which had rebounded up a bit after taking him home. He had his first pediatrician appointment at one week and the doctor was very pleased with how he looked. He had gained weight, now 7lbs and 20inches!! And although his levels were still going up a bit she was encouraged that they would soon peak and start to fall. Today Austin is 1 week and 1 day old and we got the good news that his levels have dropped and tomorrow will be his first day without a heel stick!!! I don't know if this mommy has ever been so happy!!! Thanks to everyone for their support and well wishes! Dan and I couldn't have made it through this difficult week without you all!!

My Birth Story

So my little boy is one week old today and I decided I should probably sit down and let you all know my birth story.(Great idea Cindy and Trinette!) Around 10pm on June 26th my water broke. Although I tried to convince myself otherwise, it was pretty obvious that night that I was going to have this baby soon! Unfortunately, I had not started having any contractions despite walking the block and bouncing on the birthing ball. So with the doctors urging I headed to the hospital. We got there at 10am on June 27th and I was 0cm and 0% effaced. I wanted to try and get some contractions going naturally and the doctor agreed this was okay to try. So we walked and walked and bounced and bounced, but to no avail.
At 8pm after only mild cramping I agreed to start Pitocin to encourage contractions and labor to progress. At about 1130 that evening I started having regular contractions about 4 minutes apart. This was hard, intense work! I was glad to have such a wonderful birthing team to help me through this whole process! I don't know what I would have done without my wonderful, patient, and loving husband! Also my moms, sisters, and grandparents who stayed with me despite the long hours, pitiful looks, and short temper! I definitely know how lucky I am and how lucky my son is to be born into two wonderful families full of loving support for one another!!
6 hours into labor my contractions started getting really close together and I was vomiting so the nurse finally decided to check me again and I was only 1cm!! I almost lost it! How could I be progressing so slowly!! I had a mini breakdown but was able to work my way back with the help of my family! It took another 5 hours or so to get to 2cm and then 2.5 hours to get to 3cm. But after that things really started happening! I went from 3cm to 8cm in 2hours and from 8cm to pushing in 30min!! I was able to push him out in 3 contractions and couldn't believe that I was finally a mom to a beautiful baby boy!!!

Dan and I celebrated our 1 year anniversary this past sunday!! I cant believe its already been a whole year since our wedding day! Amazing! We didn't really do anything since we spent the weekend apart, Dan at his brother Tims bach party and me at Jammies bachelorette party! But we were able to have a nice dinner out and quiet evening together.
And now for the big news that I am finally TERM!! yay!! 37.5 weeks today!! Tomorrow my doctor will check and see if I have started dilating or anything yet. But here are some belly pics!

Dan and I were able to take our last long vacation before having to take kiddies along!! We went to Washington DC for 3 days and then drove down to south carolina to meet up with his dad, siblings and significant others. We met all of Dans aunts, uncles and some cousins that all still live around where Richard grew up! We had fun both places, but my camera stopped working so I only have DC pics...SC pics to come!

Our winter trip up to oregon was a lot of fun! We hung out with the fam, played in the snow, sledded and snowboarded behind our truck, toured the deschutes brewery and had lots of other fun! We also made the best of being stuck in an hour and a half road closure by sledding on the side of the freeway! Only damper to the vaca was the truck broke down on the way home! Fortunately we were able to limp home and it should be back from the shop today. Here are some pics and videos:

Its a boy and we couldn't be happier!! Austin Keith Jones was a total wiggle worm during the whole ultrasound which leaves me wondering...once i start to feel him kick, is he ever going to let me sleep? ha! And look at the belly on that kid!! Im in love with this little guy already!!

Scott sold us his dirt bike and Dan and I went and picked it up this weekend. At first I was really scared of falling and having the bike fall on top of me! I was wearing knee pads on my knees and elbows! But then we started with Dan on the bike showing me shifting and steering, and pretty soon I was on my on!! I loved it! Here are some videos...I swear it looks like I'm going a lot slower than it felt!
